Description
The Vehicle Design Engineer is required to:
- Lead the development of and the management of the 3D CAD 'Master Model' for a platform or project;
- Create the Master Model either as part of a new platform development or based on an existing platform for a bid;
- Identifying geographic location within the vehicle with the relevant Vehicle or System Engineer for all key components and space allocation;
- Lead multifunctional reviews of the 3D CAD geometry at internal peer review and also customer reviews.
Key Accountabilities:
- Development of 3D vehicle and design solutions based on contractual and tender documentation, Bombardier's legal obligations policies and procedures;
- Responsible as the 'Master modeller' on a platform development, a bid or a project for ensuring that the master modelling process is executed within the framework of the process, the appropriate project constraints whilst maintaining the robustness and discipline required;
- Once location and space is allocated the interfaces between the identified zones will be identified, documented and managed through all design phases of the project ensuring appropriate governance is applied;
- Keep abreast of technological developments and incorporating them into BT products and engineering processes where appropriate;
- Contribute to strategic decisions on tools and processes within the Engineering ensuring Lessons Learnt on use are fed back into the process etc.
Qualifications
Education required:
- Relevant Engineering Degree and relevant professional body membership (or for exceptional candidates experience maybe taken in lieu of qualifications).
Number of years of experience required:

- A good understanding of relevant international standards and legal requirements and interpreting these in to a design;
- Experience in setting and managing space requirements;
- Proven experience in design for manufacturing processes.
Other elements to consider (Example: work environment, physical demand, etc.):
- Ideally knowledge of carbody structures, train interiors and numerous train systems and the train to infrastructure interface. However, this is not mandatory;
- Comfortable in dealing with partners, suppliers and customers within the design environment both at home and abroad;
- Work in a structured manner, seek out information, make decisions, document reasoning and assumptions;
